SMP 2005 - Changed My Life by Nora B.When I flew to Alaska in 2005, I never dreamed this internship would change my life so much …I went to Bible College in Germany for three years (2003-2006) and was able to complete a three-month internship each summer. The first year, I was required to stay in Germany to help with chores at the Bible college. But in the second year it was finally time—I got myself on an airplane and flew northward. My dream was coming true … I found out about the SMP program from a friend and teacher. Even then it gripped me, and my only thought was—ALASKA! I never dreamed that I personally—just one year later—would land there … I came to Alaska with great expectations: I wanted to serve God, experience great things with him and bring people the gospel on the spot. God placed me on a super team (miss you guys), with whom I flew westward to a solitary village. At this point I just want to tell you about one experience: After a week-and-a-half-long ministry in a western Alaska village we were sitting in an airplane flying toward another village about 30 miles away. I felt a heavy burden on my heart. We were leaving behind kids, teens and young adults who had had only one chance this year to hear something about Jesus Christ … There were so many still unreached, so many young people who did not know Jesus Christ, or who were only growing slowly in their relationship with Jesus, because they had no one to teach them. That realization brought me to tears both inwardly and outwardly, and for the first time I considered long-term service in Alaska … I could write of many such occurrences, where I noticed:God used you, with all your limitations, your failures and your shortcomings; all he wants is your YES! To make a long story short: I am now on my way to Alaska to work as a full time missionary for the Lord. My main focus will be on kids, teens and young adults … and I can hardly wait! I plan to leave in January 2009—please pray with me! A three-month internship can quickly change your life … so be prepared! J
SMP 2005 Olga S. This will be my third summer, since I was at SMP and I am still profiting from my experience in Alaska and the Yukon Territory. I am really glad that I had this possibility to have such an amazing summer with the Send Alaska Team. |
